Notes

Many wagons, especially those built for private owners, but sometimes the railway companies too, were fitted with plates giving details of the builder of the wagon. Such plates often included the year of manufacture. Those plates above containing the word "England" may have been for vehicles sold overseas. Plates for vehicles supplied to the UK may have used different wording, but I have no examples to work from.

Under British Railways, the builder's name was often incorporated into the standard numberplate, in place of the BR works name, instead of a separate builder's plate.
